My Mom passed away
May 15, 2004. I want to tell you a little about her and her amazing
life.
Marie was born in Revere
Massachusetts on May 3, 1921. She was the third of 5 sisters and one
brother, to her parents who emigrated from Sicily. She met Galvin, my Dad
when she was just 16, they were married in 1940. During the war, my Dad
taught at the maritime academy in Baltimore Maryland, Mom worked as a
secretary at the Parker Pen Company. Back then, Parker was the pen carried
by famous and influential people, and back then you would bring your
pen in for service. When they came to the Parker office, my Mom was
the one to help them. Therefore she was often meeting local celebrities and
prominent business people. After the war, my folks moved to San Francisco.
My Dad worked in the shipping business, Mom found her way around the city. I
was born in 1953, my brother Craig followed in 1958. We later moved to
Pinole in the East Bay. Mom became active in local civic groups. She was a
crusader and volunteer for the American Cancer Society helping them for
40 years, including serving as the County Chairperson and headed the local
Christmas fundraisers. She was also active in the PTA, local politics and
served as president of the Pinole Garden Club.
We had a large extended family and
Mom enjoyed entertaining, and spending time with family and friends. Her
travels included retracing her roots to the birthplace of her parents in
Termini, Italy.
My folks were married for
64 years. Mom raised 2 boys, and over a million dollars for charity. She
will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her, and who she loved. She
asked to have her ashes scattered among the trees near Lake Tahoe that
were planted in her honor by the Pinole Garden Club.
Memorial offerings may be made to the
American Cancer
Society
